Some Other Sources of Inspiration

I thought I would take a minute to share some books/speakers that have really helped bring me to where I am now on my spiritual journey so that they can hopefully be an inspiration to you as well! Check back from time to time as I will be sure to update this list periodically.

One of the first books I read after I met my husband and started seeking God was Under the Overpass. What a humbling book! I definitely recommend reading it as it definitely changed my perspective! You can visit the author’s website here.

The next book that revolutionized my relationship with God was the devotional book, Jesus Calling. I love how it’s written as if Jesus is speaking directly to you, and this helped me practice listening to God’s voice. I started out just hearing maybe a sentence, and now I have full dialogues with him, like prayer is meant to be 🙂

Next, I wanted to learn more about spiritual warfare. I went to the library to get some books and the first one I read, Walking with God, just so happened to help me out both listening to God’s voice and learning about our enemy. I have read several other books by John Eldredge, and honestly, I would recommend every single one. I also read 2 books that he wrote with his wife, Captivating and Love & War. If you are married I absolutely recommend reading Love & War, it is so incredible. And all women would benefit from reading Captivating. To be honest, the first time I read it I thought to myself, “I’m not really broken, I don’t really fall in this category.” But God actually told me to go back and read it, so that’s what I’m doing now!

I recently downloaded Pursuit of Proverbs 31 for my kindle, and I am so glad that I did! Not only is it helpful as far as being a mother/wife, it also gives really helpful advice on how to really dig in and study God’s word.

Crazy Love was such an awesome book showing what it looks like to be a true Christ Follower, and not just be “religious”. It was another book that totally changed my perspective on things as well as increase my love for God.  You can visit the Crazy Love book website here.

Chris Hodge: Pastor of Church of the Highlands in Alabma. Branon actually introduced me to his messages and I love them! He is funny yet serious, and just altogether inspiring.

Brad Brinson: Pastor of Two Rivers Church here in Knoxville, Tn. This is the church I attend, and I can’t tell you the number of times that he has given a message that was exactly what I needed to hear that week. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful church home.

Brad Jersak: The first Listen Up conference I went to was September 2012 and he was the speaker. I learned so much that weekend from his teachings. I haven’t actually read any of his books, but I know he has some available.

That’s all for now, but please feel free to comment and let me know any recommendations you have!
